Richard B. Finley, D.M.D.
Meet Dr. Finley
Dr. Finley is a native of Gulfport, MS and a graduate of Harrison Central High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degrees in Biology and Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. After college, he worked as an orthodontic laboratory technician and clinical assistant until attending the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry.
While attending the University of Mississippi School of Dentistry, Dr. Finley received the Alliance of the Mississippi Dental Association Scholarship Award and completed literature review research with a faculty member that was published in the Journal of Dental Education. He later presented this abstract at the American Association of Dental Research in Washington, DC. After dental school, he entered private practice in Long Beach, MS in 2003. Following hurricane Katrina, he also worked as a general dentist at Schofield Barracks, HI and Camp Shelby, MS from 2006 to 2007 prior to specializing in endodontics.
Dr. Finley completed his advanced education in endodontics at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA, earning a certificate in endodontics. Endodontic retreatment and microsurgery were a significant focal point of this residency program. He was chosen to accompany faculty on a surgical trip to dental schools in El Salvador, providing endodontic treatment and surgery to disadvantaged patients. Dr. Finley was also responsible for teaching and supervision of undergraduate dental students in both the endodontic and emergency clinics at USC.
After completing his advanced training in endodontics, Dr. Finley worked as a civilian contractor and performed an integral part of the Army’s First Term Dental Readiness at Fort Sill, OK and Fort Benning, GA. He provided the full scope of endodontic and emergency treatment to soldiers undergoing Advanced Infantry Training for the Army from summer 2009 to the fall of 2011. He returned to Mississippi in 2011 and practiced for a time prior to relocating to Dallas.
His professional affiliations have included the American Association of Endodontists, the American Dental Association, the Mississippi Dental Association, and the Greater Gulfport Dental Society. He enjoys traveling, live music, playing the guitar, and is an avid tennis player.
